Fibromyalgia, Endorphin Levels, and Addiction

I have had the pain of fibro for as long as I can remember. Recently, I have come accross studies that show part of fibromyalgia being low endorphin levels, and have been wondering if these low endorphin levels can contribute to various addictions that boost endorphin levels.

Since these endorphins seem so important, what medications or other things can be done to help increase endorphin levels and the proper flow of endorphins throughout the body?

SSRI's to prevent and treat depression will help, aswell as low to no impact excercise such as yoga, pilates and other meditative forms

The number one natural, safe way to increase your endorphin levels is through acupuncture--it is wonderful

Mild regular arobic excersise is helpful because it raises endorphins. Staying on a schedule is really important & streching before and after.

low dose naltrexone has been working very well for my fibro pain...the miniscule dose you take at night is thought to block off some of the bodies opiod/endorphin receptors for a brief time so that your body manufactures more and you have more. My pain was excruciating, but I've been able to to get off most of my pain meds now. And it's not just one of those brief "remission" periods that sometimes occur because I do still have a little pain...but it is so very, very mild. Ironically the regular dosage of Naltrexone (which is much higher than what you'd use for fms) is used in treating addictions.
