I don't mean to sound naive, but are there rheumatoligists in Canada? And if so, do you require a referral from your doctor to see one?

How about the University of Alberta - Edmonton
Department of Medicine as a start?

I live in the US so I am unable to respond to your question about a referral.

Have you tried googling the name of your city and rheumotologist to see what pops up? Take care.

Hi peek_boo, yes you do need a referral to see any specialist in Canada, I am from Vancouver myself.

Hey peek_book, yes there are rheumy in AB, what you need to do is go see your primary doctor and ask for a referral.

You may have to wait before you get an appointment as rheumy are rare, or at least in Ontario they are!

Hi peek,
I live in Ontario, are there any fibro support groups in your area? I attend one monthly, and have not only received a great amount of support, but great info on doctors that are fibro friendly!!! This is not necessarily the easiest thing to find, I have had more than my share of doctors telling me it's all in my head!!!! My gp gave me the info on this support group, and has gotten me referals for any and all of the specialists that I have requested!!! I hope you have as good a primary care doctor as I do, we truly rely so much on their support and assistance fms is a very difficult diagnosis to get as it is life long, painful, and life altering. A positive attitude, and sense of humour go a long way with coping!!!
