Mandy, another option would be Tai Chi. It is highly recommended for Fibromyalgia (FMS). I'm with you - I can get down on the floor but getting up is impossible without help. You can find DVDs for beginners on Amazon. Tai Chi can be done anywhere and requires no special equipment or clothing. Take care.

If memory serves, I believe that the Mayo has put out a double DVD set for Fibromyalgia, mostly dealing with nutrition and exercise. The exercise is a yoga routine specifically designed for fibro by Rodney Yee. There are gentle poses, with special adaptations like using pillows to lessen the 'stretching distance' or resting body parts on chairs instead of leaning over too far. I found it very easy, and liked how he stressed not to push oneself too far. I also like his AM yoga tape and another GAIAM one for stress relief, but those are a bit more work. Good luck.

I am plus size, so I have been using Just my size yoga on dvd. For me the key is to know your limits and only go as far as your body is able, I know I can't touch my toes, so I go as far as my body will let me and not push my self to hard. Over time the poses will come easier.

Yoga is beneficial. Take it easy and don't stress yourself too much. With time your body will become more flexible.

Rodney am yoga for beginners. It is gentle with no crazy postures. I always look for Gentle Hatha yoga and skip any postures that are too much for me...and the relaxation at the end is great to calm the mind and body to start my day. (I just need to get my butt out of bed on time to do it...:))
