Pain medication

My doctor has suggested Nortriptyline as an aid in pain prevention. I've taken so many medications like this under trial and error. Everyone of the has side effects that are worse than Fibromyalgia. All of them so far has caused weight gain, confusion most of the time, always feeling groggy, and sleeplessness. Among others.
I've asked my doctor about pain medications for the days when I can't even concentrate at work because the pain is taking over my life when that happens. Not everyday is that bad, but some days are worse than others. He won't prescribe any narcotic pain medication, which is the only one that he said would help with the pain. I'm wondering if I should go to another doctor which might have different ideas, or just put up with those really terrible day.

Jill, find another doctor. I am finding a lot of help from my doctor in Chattanooga, TN. I use a fentenyl patch for major pain and Lortab 10 for breakthrough pain. There are so many good options. Don't live through another painful day.

Run..................as fast as you can to another doctor, yours is being cruel!! There is no need to live in pain because of a mis-informed doctor. Narcotic's make some doc's shake in their boots, which is really sad, all because of the DEA regulations. There are plenty of good doctors who are willing to help you, you just may need to search around until you find one that is compatible and can empathize with you. Look for your local Fibromyalgia support group, they can be a wealth of information. Good luck, and God Bless You
