Are narcotic pain medications often prescribed? What are the most common pain medications prescribed and do you have to take them forever?

I use Ultram (50 mg.) It's not classified as a narcotic, but has similar effects of percocet. I only take one a day (1/2 in AM, 1/2 afternoon.) Could become addictive, so be careful. I never take more than one a day.

I take Ultram(Tramadol)50 mg. 2 tablets 2-3 times a day with 2 excedrin. I also take Parafon Forte PRN and Percocet PRN. I use Gabapentin 300 mg. at bedtime and occasionally during the day. For sleep I use 30 mg. Restoril. I have been taking 7.5 mg. of Prednisone for over 10 years for respiratory problems and it seems to help the FMS too. This sounds like a lot of meds, but at least I am up and living a fairly nornal life and caring for a semi invalid husband.
