Is putting weed into gel capsules any different from Cesamet?

That is a good questions; yes it is different.

Cesamet (Nabilone) is significantly different to marijuana.

Nabilone is a synthetic cannabinoid very similiar to one of the main psychoactive chemicals in Marijuana - tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

There have been reports that while weed is non-addictive, Cesamet can be. Also, it is reported to not work as well as weed and is slower to take affect. But it is a legal form of THC.

However, weed has other chemicals in it other than THC while Cesamet is only the synthetic form of THC. There are also different strains of marijuana so the effects would be slightly different than that of taking Cesamet.

I have had Fibromyalgia since I was 15 years old. I am now 34. I was just diagnosed three years ago. Never really believed in drugs that were prescribed me because before the diagnosis I was prescribed pain medications that didn't even touch my symptoms. Have been to doctors my whole life and ALWAYS walked out with a prescription that might help. They never did! I would end up getting worse symptoms because of the drugs and would stop taking them. Once diagnosed I was prescribed medications for the Fibromyalgia and again bad side effects. I was at my wits end on disability and couldn't keep a job. Tired of being a pin cushion and Guinea pig. I decided to try my own treatment. I first eliminated stress from my life (at least as much as possible) and then I heard of smoking marijuana. I have been smoking for the last year and am able to work again and no longer worry about being on disability. It doesn't take away the pain per se but it does help cope with it. Just two puffs a night and I am able to tolerate the pain and sleep a full night. I will never go back to the 'drugs' prescribed me! My life was hell before 'medical marijuana'. And now I am able to live a pretty managable life.

You and I are in the same boat. After the first few medications didn't work, my doctor gave me samples with the prescription so if I didn't tolerate it, I didn't have to waste my money on it.

It bugs me that my doctor can prescribe me GHB - yes that's right, the 'date rape' drug - and my insurance company will reimburse me for the cost of it, but weed is too controversial? Is it because the pharmaceutical companies would have to become farmers?

I have just started smoking (even though it's illegal). I could not believe how much better I felt. I have tried all the meds, but nothing never seems to take care of most of the problems. IT REALLY HELPS!!

I believe Marijuana is the best thing out there. You don't get all those crappy side effects from it. It really does help relieve pain and just really relaxes you. I wish it wasn't illegal. I still smoke it and it has really helped my pain. I would recommend this to anyone who has a lot of pain. :)

The first ever (in Canada) Medical Marijuana and Hemp Expo medicalmarijuana-hempexpo.com will take place in Toronto, Ontario July 16-18 2010. They will have a 4,600 square foot vapor lounge to accommodate medical marijuana patients who can feel comfortable and relaxed medicating. They are encouraging patients to bring their own medicine along with them, as vaporizers of all makes and models will be available for use. Of course, they are not allowed to sell medicinal marijuana or any weed, that would be illegal!

I think this is awesome and if my medicinal marijuana application is approved by then, I will definitely be checking it out!

Im going to ask my pain doctor about medicinal marijuana next time I see him. I feel guilty having to ask such a thing...

It is just terrible that you feel that way Noca. By all means, I understand why you feel the way you do. Many people feel the same way.

I think it is a shame that society, and the law, approves of me taking narcotics that have me drooling on myself in the corner over using marijuana (even orally) and being able to remain a functioning member for society. If the stigma wasn't there we might have a chance at having insurance cover the cost for prescribed medicinal marijuana.

As my first post... I'd just like to agree with the above statement and also introduce myself.
Coming to you from BC, Canada...
I've been lurking around the forum for some time.
I'm active in the medical marijuana community here in Canada.
I'm always looking to learn more, share experiences and even vent by times.

Canada is certainly a better place to live if you are interested in medicinal marijuana. Although the paperwork to get a license is crazy, and I am sure I am going to be waiting months before getting a response back.

It's just a shame that I can smoke cigarettes which cause such a burden on health care, but I can't use maryjane for my pain. A six year old can walk into a coffee shop and order a coffee and donuts, full of harmful caffeine, trans fats and sugar, but I can't puff on a pipe in the morning to pull my brain out of the fog.
