I have suffered from FMS for years without a diagnosis until recently. I currently am on a regimen of Naproxen, Klonipin, flexeril and Lortab which I use only when pain becomes unbearable. Previously when I lived in Alabama my doctor there would give me injections of Medrol which would give me instant relief with no side effects. The downside is that it is only temporary and lasts about a month. Since Medrol is a steroid it tears down your immune system so I elect not to use it until I get to a point of extreme unbearable pain that can't be managed by pain relievers.

Medrol which is the generic version of prednisone would not be my first or last choice to treat fibromyalgia (FMS). It is extremely damaging to the immune system and should only be used as a last choice. FMS is an autoimmune disease; it is generally believed that FMS may originate in your gut. Eighty percent of your immune system is there. Feeding your gut Medrol is not the best idea I have ever heard. I would like to suggest that you and greeneyedlady go to the National Fibromyalgia Association website and get a referral to a fibro-friendly rheumotologist in your area. A pain specialist would be another option. You could also call your local hospital physician referral service and ask them who on staff treats FMS. Managing chronic pain requires that you take some sort of medication all of the time. You can not just take it when the pain becomes unbearable. At that point, it is much harder to break the pain cycle which results in higher and higher doseages of medication to manage the problem. I would rather take a lower dose all of the time than have to load on progressively more medication to get where I wanted to be in the first place - comfortable. Medrol is not a good solution for FMS under any circumstances. Take care.
