Cymbalta or Zanaflex Success Stories

Today the Dr. put me on Cymbalta to help me cut back on the Elavil (100 mg.) that I have been taking for 23 years- (and 40 pounds gained).
How long did it take for it to start working for you, and is anyone taking it in conjunction with Elavil? Also, she put me on Zanaflex prn for my "monthly flare-ups" and after taking the first one (4mg.) it actually felt like my headache was a little worse- I have been taking Soma and Toradol for the headaches, but they are no longer very effective- any comments or results?

zanaflex helps with my pain a little, and it also helps me get to sleep, which i had been having VERY serious problems with.

Hi Dani,

I have been taking Cymbalta for about 2-3 years now and Love being on it. No weight gain. I really can't say how soon I noticed a difference because like you, I was on something else that I was backing off from while gradually increasing the Cymbalta. I was originally put on an antidepressant because of my migraines and my neurologist will ocassionally ask me if I want to try to wean off of it and I tell him "No Way!"

I also see a physiatrist who started me on Zanaflex about 2 years ago. I can't remember what the beginning dose was but the first winter was terrible. It seems like the weather plays a huge part in my FM and Migraines with winter being the worst season. I was taking too many pain pills for the FM so the Neuro doc asked me to talk to the Psysiatrist and see if he would increase the Zanaflex to combat the FM symptoms instead of so many pain pills that were giving me rebound headaches. I have always taken the Zanaflex daily on a regular basis as part of my FM treatment program. My program is 2 mg at 8 a.m., 4 mg at 12 Noon, 2 mg at 4 p.m. and 6 mg at bedtime. This worked well last winter but not this winter. So we are going to change the dosage for next winter. Taking it on a regular basis really made a difference for me and even helped my headaches calm down a little bit.

It is really tough trying to combat so many different painful problems at once.

Dani I too take Cymbalta & I LOVE IT! I was started on 60mg @ bedtime. The DR has never raised it. Sometimes I think I need to have it increased. Lately I feel as if I am getting use to the dose? I am starting to have painthat keeps me awake at night. How much is everyone else taking?
