Question: Hi everyone! I just wanted to share with all of you my experience... My pain started in 2000 and I was treated for Fibromyalgia for many years with very little, if any, relief. I was taking crazy amounts of prescriptions, and none of them seemed to work. Last summer, I finally found a doctor who weaned me off of all the meds that were unsuccessfully attempting to treat the symptoms and he actually found the cause. He did a blood test that found that I was completely and totally deficient in vitamin D2. He said that many Fibro patients have a vitamin D deficiency. (So why are vitamin D supplements not a staple in the treatment of Fibromyalgia?!?) He gave me a prescription for 50,000 units of vitamin D twice a week, which I have been taking for a little over a year now (and it's the only pill that I take). I FEEL FANTASTIC!!! I no longer suffer from any pain, I sleep better than ever, my mind is clear, I'm no longer depressed, ... the great results just go on and on! I'm not suggesting that this will help anyone/everyone else, but I definitely think that it couldn't hurt to just ask for your blood to be checked for vitamin levels! It's worth a shot! Answer: Because you were vitamin D deficient and diagnosed with fibromyalgia does not mean that all FMS cases are due to a vitamin D defiency. I think it is more likely that this deficiency causes similar symptoms and by all means should be checked out. I see my hematologist next month and will ask her about it. I have also read recently that vitamin D defiency is a greater problem than people realize but have never thought to associate it with Fibromyalgia-like symptoms. I was curious, was your diet deficient in Vitamin D and what about your sun exposure? I live in Florida and think I get enough time in the sun to produce vitamin D (and I also drink at least one glass of vitamin fortified milk per day) but one of the articles I read said that sunscreens inhibit the rays that stimulate vitamin D production so it made me wonder if the more recent use of sunscreens and concerns about over exposure to the sun could be related to a trend of increased vitamin D defiency. The article stated that those below a line drawn from LA to Columbia SC get strong enough sun year round to stimulate vit. D production, but north of that line, you must get it through diet or supplements in the cooler months. =

Answer: I just had my vitamin D level checked by my doctor. She was surprised it was so good. I think she was hoping that might be the culprit instead of FMS. No such luck, but a good idea nonetheless. =
