Q&A | Fibromyalgia General Discussion | Fatigue, Dizziness & Tingling

Welcome, guest
Name: dids Title of Question: Fatigue, Dizziness & Tingling
Question: I am 34 yr old female and have always been active and seemingly healthy. For the past 3 months I have had extreme fatigue, dizziness, tension headaches and now tingling. I have had all the blood tests, chest x-ray, holter monitor and now with this tingling my doctor suggest testing for MS. This obviously scares me. I would actually feel happier at this point to think these symptoms are fibro and not MS. On top of it, it will be many months before I will be fit in for an MRI. Not knowing is torturous. Anyone else have tingling that comes and goes and seems more steady in one area i.e. left leg?  ?

Answer: In response to dids: I just recently have come down with tingling in my left arm and leg as well as dizziness and fatigue. Did you ever get a diagnosis? I have just been told I am negative for Lyme and Thyroid.  =

Name: Steph | Date: June 8, 2005, 18:45
Answer: Tingling in left foot, numbness in left arm, and burning on left side of my face. MRI has ruled out MS. I was a total wreck until I finally got the results. Lost 4 pounds. I know what you are going through. Try not to get too nervous, I will only aggravate your symptoms.  =

Name: Holly | Date: June 8, 2005, 20:17
Answer: Did any of you have a diagnosis? The not-knowing is driving me nuts.  =

Name: Mary | Date: July 8, 2005, 12:50
Answer: I too get tingling in my left arm/fingers. Swelling too. Also get "electrical-like" pulsations down my left leg and strange tingling on my cheeks and jawline. Had an MRI to rule out MS. I also had to wait for these test results. It literally made me crazy and the symtoms got worse -- lost weight, got depressed, etc.  =

Name: Karen | Date: July 10, 2005, 13:43
Answer: I also suffer from fatigue. I could sleep for hours and wake up and still not feel rested. Sometimes I feel so tired that I could fall asleep. How do sleep at night? If you wake up alot like I do that explains why we are so tired. A restless sleep cam make it worse for people who suffer with fibro.  =

Answer: Hey. I have all these symptoms. I have been tested for MS as well. I got tested twice as i had persuaded myself that it was. Fortunately both MRIs have come back negative. I am currently seeing a chiropractor who practices 'Chiropractic Neurology'. He diagnosed me with a vestibulo-cerebellar imbalance. I suggest you look this up. I have had some good results, however the underlying problem is still there - it is only seeming to help reduce the symptoms, not compeletly remove them. If anyone finds something better, please let me know....  =

Answer: I am a 34 year old female. I had a hysterectomy last year and was also diagnosed with gilbert's syndrome (liver disorder). When I first went to see my doctor with the dizziness he thought it could be the start of depression so I am now on depression medications but the dizziness is now getting worse. As I'm sitting here writing this my head just feels very funny like it's heavy. I tried helping my daughter with a puzzle but couldn't cause my left are kept getting tingly. My doctor is now referring me to a nerologist and I see him on Tuesday. I am scared all of you are right the not knowing is even scarier.  =

Answer: I get tingling and swelling in my left arm, hand and fingers. Sometimes I get it in my right foot as well. The Dr., at one point, thought that I might have MS. I know how scary that sounds but I went to a Rhuematologist and was diag. with FMS. I found that the heating pad wrapped around my arm helps with the aching. Take care and God bless!  =

Answer: Get as much ruled out as possible. I have been diagnosed four years now. Make sure your hormones are balanced, see an endocrinologist, this could cause dizziness also chemicals in the brain might be disruptive, antidepressants are usually given but be careful and see a specialist for this medication.Anxiety and Depression runs hand in hand with this condition and it would be wise to get it addressed.A psychologist has the right stuff to help you better in that area since he/she specializes in it. Fibromyalgia can also occur with Myofasia Pain Syndrome. It seems to be the worst part of this condition. You can have both. A Rheumatolgist is the one to diagnose this and physical therapists can help with releasing your muscles and its' toxins. Anything happening with the left side of your body and chest tightness I would consult a physician to rule out heart problems because with this condition it is hard to differentiate. Restless leg syndrome is a different condition and there is medication for it. Getting a good nights sleep into stage 4 you may need a prescription to accomplish this. Very important to get good sleep. Again stretching is very helpful with this condition and know your limits.  =

Answer: Just a follow up to my last post....my neurologist is testing me for lyme disease my thyroid and rheumatoid arthritis...might be a good idea to get tested for all of this. I have recently noticed that I get a burning feeling in my legs..like I have been walking all day..my mom has RA and she has the same symptoms that I have including the tingling feeling, numbness, burning in the legs and bruises that just appear from thin air and never seem to go away.  =

Name: Jean | Date: September 4, 2005, 21:03
Answer: Hi Mellisa. RA is a very difficult condition as well. I'm thinking if your mom has it then you may have it. Whether this all runs into fibro I don't know but your Rheumatologist will know.  =

Answer: Me too. I started about a week after a hernia sugery. Numb spot on my right shoulder, that's been three months and it's still there. Then I started waking up with my little fingers numb, they "woke up" alright but it happens every night. Now my left foot is constantly tingling slightly and my shoulder get fatigued with just a little effort. My neurologist said my clinical exam was normal but scheduled me for an MRI this Monday. I'm afraid of MS too. Wish me luck.  =

Answer: Do yourselves a favor and get a GTT test done, I also have all the above symptoms and recently was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after being told for years I did not have diabetes. My doctor says as many as 20 million people have the disease here in America and do not know they have it or are misdiagnosed. If caught early much can be done, but if not treated it can cause many serious problems and even death. Please get tested. Good luck and God Bless! Oh yes,I also have Fibromyalgia.  =

Answer: Hi dids: There are many conditions that mimic Fibromyalgia and MS is one of them. then there is restless leg syndrome, myofascial pain syndrome ,lyme disease, lupus there are many so no news is good news however I've been in the same boat. Fibromyalgia and MS do most exactly run parrelell with each other but that does not necessarily mean you have it. I know it would be better to get this test over with but sometimes the test will not show it either. Sometimes it takes 10 years for this disease to show up on an MRI so try not to stress out over it so much. I understand because I did stress out over it and I have recently been diagnosed with restless leg syndrome. Having the condition of Fibromyalgia gives the medical comunity a great challenge as to what it is you really have and sometimes you may aquire a few conditions on top of Fibromyalgia like myofascial Pain Syndrome, restless leg Syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, lyme disease, its so big. Now knowing all this and it will not go away because you will have good days and bad days it will over time stress your body out. In that case I would look into talking with your doctor about anxieity and depression which will also occur with the other symptoms you are telling me about. I've been in this for over 4 years now and I finally went to a psychiatrist to talk with them about what was going on with me and they are the best physicians in my estimation to monitor your antidepressant medications if you choose to do this. It will take time but why not since you have to wait for the MRI, see what this may do, it could help surprisingly. Hope I could help and lots of hugs this is tough.  =

Name: Nancy | Date: December 7, 2005, 19:50
Answer: Yes, all those symptoms can be fibromyalgia. Or Lyme Disease. Have a doctor test for Lyme disease using a wide sprectrum Western Blot while you're waiting for an MRI. Try not to worry! I think you'd feel weakness in one side if it were MS Take good care; try and schedule regular rest.  =

Name: Jean | Date: December 8, 2005, 15:44
Answer: This question got alot of hits and not many answers. I think we need to know what doctors to go to. A Rheumatologist diagnosis and tests for Fibromyalgia, sorjourns syndromeand osteoarthritis Your GP can run a chemistry blood test on all your functions CBC and hormones. An Endogrinologist can run tests on all your hormones and glands, test for diabetes and osteoporosis. Your neurolgist can do nerve induction tests and MRI's for diagnosing MS. Your Internal Medicine Physician is capaple of much of the same tests already described. Y;ur Family Physcian can send you to the right specialist and I'm sure there is more that I have missed but just ask the right questions and you may get the right answers. With this condition of Fibromyalgia and it's co-conspirator MS I will tell you what my Neurologist told me and that is Fibromyalgia is not crippling and you experience numbness and tingling but it repairs itself, with MS you experience the same symptoms but you lose the capabilities of your limbs and have weakness that does not subside. So until that happens I would not stress out so much until all the factors are in. Hope that made sense. Take Care All of You.  =

Answer: I have tingling/numbness only in my right toe. I have been diagnosed with FMS, but not all the classic symptoms fit me. I have more of the fatigue/fibro-fog than classic pain and soreness. I also got headaches and feel as though I am coming down with the flu.  =

Answer: I have all these symtoms, hoever they are not related. You might have a pinched nerve in your back. I have degenerative disc in my L3, L4 and L5 discs my left leg tingles, burns etc off and all for years now! have the MRI !  =

Name: Chris | Date: June 7, 2006, 13:34
Answer: Hi dids; I get a lot of that too, but I think in my case some of the tingling is from C5,C6,C7 damaged in my neck. I've been tested for MS, and you are right, not knowing is horrible. I wish you only the best. take care.  =

Name: Amethyst Angel | Date: June 7, 2006, 19:54
Answer: About 3 montrhs ago I started getting tingling and burning pain all over my body. I was an absolute nervous wreck, unable to sleep at night because of the pain. I was lucky that I managed to get an MRI done quickly (It showed that all I had was a sinus infection. My blood work also showed nothing out of the ordinary.) My symptoms immediately went down in severity and, once I started getting treatment to fix my sleep cycle, I started feeling much better. (I still feel pretty crappy during my periods and I had tortuous bladder symptoms a couple of weeks ago when I caught a UTI, but thankfully, the horrible pain I had at the beginning hasn't returned.) I'm guessing stress, in my case, has a lot to do with making my symptoms worse. (All I can say to you is, try to get as much good sleep as you possibly can (my doctor gave me trazodone, which was worked wonders for me) and try to reduce your stress as much as possible. (P.S.: If it is MS, it's better to know sooner rather than later, as there are treatment which exist which can slow down the progress of the disease, at least according to the medical literature I've read...)  =

Name: Karen | Date: July 12, 2006, 10:11
Answer: Almost exactly described my symptoms - started with a tingling in left side of my face after a night out - dancing close to speakers! Then spread down left arm and leg. Doctors treating as a stroke - I'm only 38! Tingling now comes and goes about two or three times a week, sometimes aches in joints. Awaiting MRI, but scan of arteries clear. I just want someone to tell me it's not a stroke, then I can start to enjoy life again. Anyone had this and got a diagnosis?  =

Answer: I have the same symptoms. I am a 23 yr old female with tingling that starts near my left knee and radiates downward into my foot. It also radiates upward into my back. Sometimes my bottom and my hips will tingle on both sides. I have been feeling very fatigued lately and also malaise (I just don't feel well.). I'm not running any fever. My tingling sensations just started yesterday, but they already seem more intense and are lasting longer periods of time each time they occur. No tests done yet, but if the tingling sensation doesn't resolve itself, I will go to the ER. This is really bugging me. good luck to you. God bless!  =

Answer: I know your fear. I have a dx of fibro but am also under the care of a MS specialist. Altho I have been seeing this neurologist for over a year already I have not gotten a MS dx even tho I have many of the MS symptoms. FMS and MS share a lot of the same symptoms. I have had two brain MRI's and one of my C-spine with no lesions showing and that is good news but still she is now sending me for neuropsychological testing. In rare instances MS can show up in these test I guess. I wonder why it took so long for your MRI test to be scheduled? Did you have to make the appointment yourself or did your doctor make it? I find that when the doctor makes my appointment for test I get in much quicker. Good luck to you. I would say don't worry but I know that is much easier said than done! Just try to remember that FMS and MS share many of the same symptoms. Not that fibro is a picnic but I understand you not wanting MS. I am in the same boat!  =

Answer: Sorry if this has already been said but I don't have time to read everyone's posts as I have to pick up my son in a minute, but this caught my eye. Have you looked into B12 deficiency? I have fibro and also had some of these weird tingling problems and turns out my B12 was low. I can be very serious, can even be caused by an autoimmune disorder (pernicious anemia) where taking oral B12 won't help. My suggestion would be to research it and if it sounds right to you have your doctor check via a blood test. Good luck!  =

Answer: Lyme tests ae very unreliable!Try Igenex for the best Lyme testing. Anyone with tingling should be tested via Igenex. I used to have tingling, severe insomnia, joint pain, chest pain, electrical type pain, headaches, and just all around sick. I was cured with long-term antibiotics. I was tested negative for Lyme numerous times before finally being refered to Igenex. Igenex is much more sensitive. I think fibromyalgia is a name for symptoms that Drs can't diagnosis, caused by multiple, unknown etologies. I would strongly suggest Igenex Lyme testing. It saved my life. I also went through MS, fibro, cancer, lups possible diagnoses. You have to take control of your medical care to the maximum extent you can in order to preserve and protect your life. If I listened to some of my Drs, I would be very sick or disabled right now. Also, if you wait too long, MRI changes will eventually show up with Lyme and you will be diagnosed with MS. Fibro is only treated with painkillers and antidepresssants, and CNS depressants. It is just masking the symptoms. Long-term antibiotics cured me! It took a year for most of my symptoms to disapear.  =

Answer: Dids - I have tingling in both of my legs but it is due in part to a lumbar problem. It comes and goes. Have you seen a rheumotologist, a neurologist or just your primary care physican? You must live in the UK or Canada to have to wait months for an MRI. I'm sorry you are in such a predicament. Let us know how you do.  =

Name: dwilmoth | Date: May 1, 2007, 19:17
Answer: Yes, that is how my fibro started. I had dibilitating dizziness, headaches and tingling. I pray you have niether ms or fibro. But I know how nervous you are. I was checked for ms too. I pray all goes well for you.  =

Answer: Hi dids.... I have had fibro symptoms for over 40 years. Started seeing a MS specialist over a year ago because I was having more and more neurological symptoms. Tingling, numbness, trigeminal neuralgia, vertigo, memory issues, balance problems, etc. Have had two brain MRI's and one of my C-spine. I had nerve conduction test and Neuropsychological test. No MS as of yet. I still see the MS specialist mostly because I absolutely love her plus she wants to keep and eye on my symptoms. My question to you is why is it taking so long to get you in for that MRI? The longest I ever waited was a few weeks. I guess it depends on where you go. I know this is easier said than done but try not to worry. I'll be thinking about you and hope all goes well. Brandy  =

Answer: I started to experience tingling, dizziness, headaches etc.. approx. eight years ago. I was sent to a neurologist in Minneapolis. She did many tests, including an MRI to rule out MS. Fortunately, I was not diagnosed with MS. I have dealt with the symptoms of Fibromyalgia for the past eight years. Flare-ups come and go. This spring I had a big flare, and have not felt better. I actually have another neuro appt. today just to rule out anything else. My Family physician did do a blood work-up and found that I have a b12 deficiency. I will discuss this with the neurologist today to see if this may have something to do with the longevity of this particular flareup. Best of luck to you. Laura  =

Answer: i am a 31 year old female... have 3 kids aged 13, 9, and 4 months old plus two step kids aged 12 and 8. I have a tingling in my left leg from my thigh to my knee and sometimes in my lower back... back pain... a dull ache on the left side of my chest, feels like its just under the breast... sometimes numbness in my left arm.. and have had some dizziness... Could these symptoms be cause by stress? i have been experiencing them for the past two years off and on... I have not see a doctor yet and will see one after reading this website... some of these symptoms come and go after long periods of time  =
